GeneTrails™ – Pioneering Diagnostics for Cancer
The Knight Diagnostic Laboratories specialize in creating panels of tests that are useful in cancer genetics and oncology. We are among the early leaders in adapting next-generation sequencing technologies to meet the standards of clinical testing. By combining amplicon-based DNA library preparation with semiconductor sequencing (Ion Torrent PGM platform), we deliver information on DNA sequence variants and mutations in a rapid, sensitive, and cost-effective manner. In some cases the sequencing is complemented with FISH assays that can identify gene translocations and amplifications that are clinically actionable. Immunohistochemistry is also employed in some cases. Thus, our approach – which we call GeneTrails™ – maximizes the use of different technologies to ensure that the reported results are both diagnostic and useful for clinical management.
Currently, the Knight Diagnostic Laboratories have developed a new panel of tests for the molecular subclassification of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) and Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor (GIST). The GeneTrails™ NSCLC panel pairs next-generation, semiconductor-based sequencing with fluorescence in-situ hybridization (FISH) to maximize the chance that a clinically actionable genetic alteration will be identified.
For further information, see the NSCLC Panel and the GIST Gene Panel test information pages.
Unsure what panel of tests may be best for your patient? Our medical directors are available to consult and can help you decide which GeneTrails™ would be the most productive and cost-effective.
